Joined once again by Michelle at Amity Wellness we discuss NEAT – Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis.

Its great that we are exercising but do you get enough movement throughout the day when you are not exercising? Think about it for a moment how many times do you move your body instead of sitting at your desk, sitting in your car or sitting in your favourite chair. Each time we make even a small movement our muscles must contract to move our bones. Each small movement primes our kinaesthetic awareness, balance and proprioception. Each small movement adds up and makes a difference.

We need to let go of this idea that we need intense earth shattering intensity, the real secret is the consistent small daily actions and movements. Sweep that floor , wash that car, park in the last row at the shopping centre, get up and down from your chair at work. We need to remember that an object in motion will stay in motion.
